As the lead-up to this November’s presidential election kicks into high gear, the Newseum is exploring the relationship between campaigns and the press. A microphone used for President Roosevelt’s fireside chats, Hillary Clinton’s beer mug and shot glass from a campaign stop in Indiana, and President Obama’s bowling ball and shoes from a stop in Pennsylvania are just a few of the 120 items that will be on display. The objects explore the evolution of press coverage starting from William McKinley’s campaign in 1896. The exhibit opens to the public on Friday at the Newseum, 555 Pennsylvania Ave. NW. — Courtney Zott
