After playing coy about what he would be doing while home in Chicago this weekend, President Obama made an unscheduled stop Friday to partake in early voting.
Perhaps he intended to do so all along or maybe he made the decision on the fly to reinforce his criticism of Florida Gov. Rick Scott for refusing to extend the Sunshine State’s voter-registration deadline because of Hurricane Matthew.
“You guys are doing a wonderful job. Appreciate ya,” Obama told the surprised poll workers, according to a report from reporters traveling with the president.
“What’s my date of birth? 8-4-81?” POTUS joked. “Nice try!” a poll worker said before Obama admitted that maybe he was “shaving just a couple of decades off.”
After entering the polling booth and presumably voting for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton — an assumption Obama wouldn’t actually confirm — the president left the downtown polling station and headed back to the motorcade.
His next destination: Wrigley Field. Obama is taking in a Cubs playoff game after all.
Earlier in the week, White House spokesman Josh Earnest wouldn’t confirm that Obama would trek to Wrigleyville to watch the Cubs take on the San Francisco Giants. Earlier Friday, Obama wouldn’t confirm that he planned on voting while home to campaign for Clinton and Rep. Tammy Duckworth as well as raise funds for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
