Sean Spicer, the former White House press secretary, defended President Trump on Saturday after a Democratic lawmaker said that President Trump was “militarizing the White House” by naming Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly as his new chief of staff.
Spicer issued the defense in response to a tweet from Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Calif., who also said that the White House was now in the hands of an “extremist” in Kelly.
“Not only is this wrong, it’s offensive on multiple levels,” Spicer tweeted.

Lee made the charge mere minutes after Trump tweeted out that Kelly would replace Reince Priebus, the outgoing chief of staff and former Republican National Committee chairman.
“By putting Gen John Kelly in charge, Pres Trump is militarizing the White House & putting our executive branch in the hands of an extremist,” Lee said.
Kelly starts as White House chief of staff on Monday.
