For Bob Schneider’s fans, the holidays are coming a bit early this year.
Schneider’s soon-to-be-released album will include the first studio recordings of longtime concert favorites “Tarantula” and “Bombananza” plus a collection of new music that combines some of the artist’s most loved styles. He’ll debut some of that music during this tour.
“I’m making an album with the quirkiness and playfulness of “Lonelyland” and “I’m Good Now,” with just a hint of the darkness; songs that showcase my songwriting and my singing and songs that will translate to playing live,” Schneider said. “We’re looking forward to playing these new ones in front of an audience.”
Those who know Schneider understand that there’s always more music coming along, and they welcome that. Indeed, he enjoys making music so much that he has an OK from his record label to release music on his own once he’s fulfilled his contracts’ obligations.
“I hear stuff and I like that, so I find that will influence my decision when I make music,” he said. “When I pick up an instrument to write a song, I will think of an interesting keyboard I heard or a mandolin, and incorporate that. I’m always interested in changing.”
Whatever he does, Schneider’s loyal fans pack the small clubs he plays no matter how often he tours. His shows are full of a taste of various types of music plus personal stories he shares.
The upcoming CD — “When the Sun Breaks Down on the Moon,” has beautifully woven melodies and what Schneider calls very personal lyrics. For a man who has borrowed from genres as diverse as blues, folks, rap and rock, this album may well be called his best to date. But even if critical acclaim is slow in coming, his fans will welcome the sound.
“People find my music through word of mouth,” he said. “Fans usually come to 80 percent of my shows; it’s the same groups every time. Fans invite their friends, which is really great. These people will be my fans for my entire career.”
