For those unsure whether there was any evidence to support President Obama’s assertion Tuesday that he can’t be president for a third term, PolitiFact provided a quick answer.
Early on in his farewell speech Tuesday night in Chicago, Obama was faced with delivering his remarks over the shouts of a protester in the audience. Moments later, the crowd broke into chants of “Four more years!” to which Obama replied, “I can’t do that.”
PolitiFact, a fact-checking organization, then sent out a tweet, using the image of its trademarked “Truth-O-Meter.” It confirmed that what Obama said is true.

The seemingly obvious fact check confirms the stipulations of the 22nd Amendment, which was passed by Congress in 1947 and ratified in 1951.
It states: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.”
