MIAMI (AP) — A former Miami police officer has pleaded guilty to contempt of court for posting online undercover recordings between himself and police detectives.
The plea was entered last week by 41-year-old Raul Iglesias, a former Miami Police Department sergeant. Iglesias was previously convicted of several charges related to the theft of drugs and money from cases he had worked.
Just before starting his four-year prison sentence, evidence shows that Iglesias in April 2013 posted the undercover recordings on YouTube and a law enforcement message board. He used the heading “Miami Mice” and the screen name “Chivas Regal.”
The recordings had been sealed by a federal judge. Authorities say the detectives on the recordings received threats, including notes on their vehicles and in mailboxes. Officers also stopped responding to their backup calls.
