Metro: See something, say something

Metro riders should expect to see more uniformed police officers on their buses and trains as a precautionary measure in the wake of Osama bin Laden’s assassination, Metro spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein said Monday.

There has been no specific threat to the transit system, she said, but officials are beefing up patrols out of an “abundance of caution.” Riders may also expect more random bag checks, but Farbstein would not confirm if the agency plans to do more of them now.

But the transit agency is taking other steps that are “invisible to the public,” she said. The agency also encourages riders to report anything suspicious to police at 202-962-2121.

“People who ride the system regularly have a very good sense of what’s usual and unusual,” Farbstein said. “So if they see something of a suspicious nature, call police.”
