‘The Breakfast Club’ host calls Sen. Warren ‘the original Rachel Dolezal’

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., was pressed about her claims to being Native American during her interview on “The Breakfast Club.” Host Charlamagne tha God went on to compare her to Rachel Dolezal, a white woman claiming to be black.

Warren defended her initial belief that she had strong Native American heritage because of what her family had told her. Warren admitted she should not have repeated the claims.

“But what I can do is try to be a good partner, and that’s what I do everyday,” the presidential candidate said.

“When did you find out you weren’t [Native American]?” Charlamagne asked.

“Well, you know, I’m not a person of color. I’m not a citizen of a tribe, and tribal citizenship is an important distinction,” Warren said, adding her claims to be a Native American did not give her extra benefits.

“You kind of like the original Rachel Dolezal a little bit … a white woman pretending to be black,” Charlamagne said.

Rachel Dolezal is a Caucasian woman who claims to be African American and whose claims have sparked a debate over identity. She served as the president of the NAACP’s chapter in Spokane, Wash., before her heritage was questioned.

Warren released the results of a DNA test in October 2018, which revealed she could be between 1/64 and 1/1,024 Native American.
