Va. Supreme Court says Fairfax can close elementary school

Many parents were not pleased when Fairfax County Public Schools decided to close Clifton Elementary at the end of the school year. These parents did not hand out spirit cookies or post angry fliers, but rather sued the school system.

On Friday, the Supreme Court of Virginia told ’em: You should’ve gone with the cookies.

Chief Judge of the Circuit Court Dennis Smith ruled in favor of the school system, which decided to close Clifton because of its declining enrollment and the high cost of renovating the school.

According to school officials, “the court was of the opinion that there was no reversible error.”

Clifton parents have been urged to check boundary maps for their new school assignments.
