Former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld, the running mate of Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson, described Donald Trump as a con man during the duo’s first televised town hall Wednesday night.
CNN moderator Chris Cuomo asked the pair for one word to describe the presumptive Republican nominee.
“Huckster,” Weld responded, likening Trump to a person who sells something or serves biased interests using pushy tactics.
Cuomo chided Weld for his classification of Trump.
“A different tone on the stage tonight when people are looking for reasons to be positive,” said Cuomo.
Johnson, the former governor of Massachusetts, also chimed in on Trump.
“I’m sure there’s something good to say about Donald somewhere, I’m sure. In the debates, I play a game in the debates, during the Republican debate when it was asked the question will you support the nominee, I would have said look, I’ll leave it open but I would not support Donald Trump based on what he has said to this point, that was all the things he had said to that point. I’ll leave it open,” Johnson said.
The Wednesday night debate took place in New York City.
