Michigan residents prefer Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s handling of the coronavirus crisis over President Trump’s response, according to a new poll.
A poll of 600 Michigan residents found 57% approved of Whitmer’s work, compared with 44% who backed Trump’s efforts.
Thirty-seven percent of respondents disapproved of Whitmer’s handling of the pandemic. Exactly 50% said the same of Trump’s response.
Whitmer has come under fire for instituting some of the toughest stay-at-home restrictions in the country. The Democrat, who is considered a potential vice presidential pick for Joe Biden, has faced protests and lawsuits over the order.
Trump weighed in on the stay-at-home order last week, tweeting: “LIBERATE MICHIGAN.”
The state has the third-highest number of coronavirus cases in the country.
The poll, released Monday, had a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
