Attorney General Eric Holder is making a big move in the same-sex marriage debate.
On ABC’s “This Week” Sunday, Holder said the Department of Justice would file a brief with the US Supreme Court, arguing that the justices should strike down any state same-sex marriage bans that come before them in the future.
“I think we will file a brief that is consistent with the positions we have taken over the past couple of years. You know, we did not defend the Defense of Marriage Act, vindicated by the Supreme Court,” he said. “If the case comes before the Supreme Court, we will file something consistent with what we have done that will be in support of same-sex marriage.”
Holder says he believes same-sex marriage bans are unconstitutional and believes any future bans that come before the court will be struck down.
