THE DAILY OUTRAGE: Mailing it in

WHO: The U.S. Postal Service

WHAT: Despite a $7 billion deficit, the USPS is paying more than $50 million per year for thousands of employees to sit around and literally do nothing, the Federal Times reports. Despite declining mail volume, union rules require that employees cannot be laid off or transferred to facilities that could use them, but must be placed on “Standby” and paid to sit in empty rooms.

WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: The Postal Service, a monopoly, has increased postage rates annually every year since 2006.

WHERE TO VENT: USPS, office of the Inspector General: 1-888-877-7644
