President Trump will meet with Intel Corp. chief executive Brian Krzanich on Wednesday, days after the tech titan said his company firmly opposes the administration’s travel ban.
The White House added the meeting to the president’s schedule earlier Wednesday, without offering details on the nature of Krzanich’s visit. The Intel chief is a member of Trump’s manufacturing policy advisory council.
“At Intel we believe that immigration is an important part of our diversity and inclusion efforts,” Krzanich wrote in a letter to his employees on Jan. 30.
“I have heard from many of you and share your concern over the recent executive order and want you to know it is not a policy we can support,” he added, noting that the company’s human resources and legal teams were available to workers affected by the order.
Intel relies heavily on skilled laborers in other countries and has approximately 3,000 U.S.-based employees who are in the country on work visas.
Kzranich had come under fire for his relationship with Trump last summer after he announced plans to host a fundraiser for the then-Republican presidential nominee. He later canceled the event and distanced himself from the president until he was spotted at Trump Tower in mid-December.
