Mike Pence drops by MLK memorial to pay respects

Vice President-elect Mike Pence stopped by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial on Monday to honor the civil rights leader during a ceremony honoring his life.

Pence posted photos to his Twitter account showing him visiting the memorial on the Tidal Basin in Washington as a wreath-laying ceremony took place.

“Honored to stop by Dr. Martin Luther King Memorial with my family & @SenatorTimScott,” Pence tweeted. “‘Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope.'”

He was the highest-ranking member of the incoming administration to visit Washington on Monday. There were rumors President-elect Trump would make a stop at the National Museum of African American History on Monday, but he instead elected to host Martin Luther King III, King’s son, in Trump Tower in New York.
