An Aberdeen teen remained in critical condition Thursday at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center after being shot in the chest Wednesday in what investigators say was a gang-related argument.
Fifteen-year-old Tyrone Moore, of the 100 block of Hamilton Place, was shot outside his apartment at about 11 a.m., police said.
Devin Jamele Milbourne, 21, of the 1600 block of Candlewood Court in Edgewood, was arrested later that night. He was charged with attempted murder, first- and second-degree assault, and use of a handgun in the commission of a felony. He is being held without bond in the Harford County Detention Center.
“It is definitely gang-connected,” said Detective Sgt. Steve Smith of the Aberdeen Police Department.
Smith said Milbourne and some associates with him at the time of the shooting were wearing red ? Bloods colors. After consulting with the Harford County Sheriff?s Office Gang Suppression Unit, the Aberdeen police learned that Milbourne belongs to the Bloods in Edgewood, authorities said.
Though Smith said he was uncertain of whether Moore is associated with a gang, he did say that Aberdeen has come to be thought of as Crips territory.
In recent years, Harford County has developed enough of a gang problem that the sheriff?s office started a gang suppression unit. Last year, the unit?s first year of operation, its made 570 traffic stops, gave out 763 citations and warnings as a result of the stops, interviewed 870 suspected criminals, arrested 186 people and recovered 35 weapons, the sheriff?s office said.
