President Trump on Tuesday defended first daughter Ivanka Trump after it was revealed she used a personal email for government work and said it didn’t rise to the level of Hillary Clinton’s email activities.
“There was no hiding. There was no deleting like Hillary Clinton did. There was no server in the basement, like Hillary Clinton had,” Trump told reporters before departing the White House for Florida. “You’re talking about a whole different, you’re talking about all fake news.”
Ivanka Trump, an assistant to the president and his eldest daughter, used a private email address last year to send hundreds of emails to Trump administration officials, the Washington Post reported.
That led some to compare Ivanka Trump’s conduct with that of Clinton, who used a private email server while she was secretary of state and ended up deleting thousands of emails before they could be examined.
“What Ivanka did, it’s all in the presidential records, everything is there,” he said. “There was no deletion, there was no nothing. What it is is a false story. Hillary Clinton deleted 33,000 e-mails. She had a server in the basement. That’s the real story.”
Trump also said that unlike Clinton’s, Ivanka Trump’s emails were not classified. Additionally, Ivanka Trump “wasn’t doing anything to hide her emails.”
