The National Weather Service shared an explosive warning to July 4 revelers who may have to contend with inclement weather this weekend.
A tweet from the government agency on Friday showed a woman stepping outside of a building when a loud boom could suddenly be heard. An explosion is seen some distance away, kicking up smoke and debris, prompting screams and a quick retreat indoors.
“Don’t mess with lightning,” the NWS tweet said. “It can strike up to 10mi from storms; well before rain starts or well after it ends. Go inside at the first sign of lightning and stay for at least 30min after the last rumble of thunder or flash of lightning. Bring the #4thOfJuly fun indoors with you!”
