Elon Musk says he’ll eat a Happy Meal on TV if McDonald’s accepts Dogecoin

Tesla CEO Elon Musk will eat a Happy Meal if he can pay for it with a Shiba Inu-themed cryptocurrency.

Musk tweeted on Monday that he would happily eat a McDonald’s kids meal on television in exchange for the company accepting Dogecoin, a cryptocurrency that he has regularly endorsed and promoted online.

“I will eat a happy meal on tv if @McDonalds accepts Dogecoin,” Musk tweeted.

Musk has regularly promoted Dogecoin, a “meme coin” created in reference to the 2013 “Doge” meme, on his Twitter account. These promotions have caused Dogecoin to spike in value due to fans purchasing the coin in vast quantities.

The Tesla CEO’s remarks occur as cryptocurrency enthusiasts are referencing McDonald’s following the steady drop in Bitcoin’s value. Several memes have arisen featuring crypto traders having to take jobs at McDonald’s, reported VICE. Even Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele, who made Bitcoin a legal tender for his country, seemingly joined in on the fun by photoshopping a picture of himself in a McDonald’s uniform.

McDonald’s also appeared to play into the trend.

“How are you doing people who run crypto twitter accounts,” the official McDonald’s account, which also interacted with several of these crypto enthusiasts on Twitter, tweeted on Monday.

The McDonald’s account even appeared to poke fun at Dogecoin. Billy Markus, the founder of Dogecoin, tweeted at McDonald’s, “I want a fry,” on Wednesday before the McDonald’s meme started. The official account responded with a picture of Doge with a fry in its mouth.

Musk, a tongue-in-cheek Dogecoin enthusiast, has claimed that Tesla will accept the currency for future purchases, though he has not elaborated on what that will look like.

It remains unclear whether McDonald’s will consider Musk’s request.

A representative from McDonald’s did not respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.
