Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said in an interview published Saturday that he is confident the GOP convention in Cleveland will be secure.
“We’ve been working really hard on security. I’m very confident that things are going to go very well in Cleveland,” Priebus told Reuters. “The police are there in full force to be helpful to protesters, but also to keep the event safe and free from incident,” he said.
The convention begins July 18. Priebus said the proceedings will help unify Republicans behind Donald Trump and predicted any rebellion against the presumptive nominee would fail.
“It’s one thing to be unhappy because your person didn’t win. I get that part. But it’s another step to now say because I don’t like the way this is going, I’m going to take something away from someone who won it fair and square. There’s just not a lot of people that are willing to do that,” he said.
