Federal law enforcement agents arrested a group of 63 people Thursday, including 52 young men, who allegedly illegally crossed from Mexico into Texas, a Customs and Border Protection spokesperson told the Washington Examiner.
The more than five dozen Central American and Mexican citizens were led by at least one smuggler over the border near Laredo, Texas, 100 miles south of San Antonio.
Border Patrol, which mans the land between border crossings, said in a news release it had received a report of possible smuggling activity on a resident’s private ranch property.
CBP, the patrol’s parent agency, deployed officers from its Air and Marine Operations to find the group.
After a three-hour search, agents from the Laredo Sector’s Carrizo Springs and Laredo West stations found the large group in a rural area west of town.
All were deemed to be in the U.S. illegally. CBP said those in the group were from Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico.
