David Deane, a former assistant commonwealth’s attorney in Fairfax County, said Wednesday that he will enter next year’s race to replace Arlington County Commonwealth’s Attorney Richard Trodden, who announced hours earlier that he would not seek a fifth term.
Trodden, first elected as the county prosecutor in 1993, endorsed Chief Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Theo Stamos as his successor. Deane would face Stamos is the Democratic primary next summer.
Trodden’s office prosecutes crimes in Arlington County and Falls Church and is responsible for all felonies and misdemeanors committed at Ronald Reagan National Airport.
