From 728 potential job losses — to zero

Well, that was easy.

Prince William County Public Schools, which had projected 728 possible job losses this year, said Monday that the number had been whittled down … to zero.

Superintendent Steven Walts said he was “overjoyed” to report there would be no losses. Additional state and county funds, as well as jobs that opened up from normal staff turnover, helped stanch any potential pain, the school system said.

Over the past several years, the schools had cut spending by about $49 million, including cutting just over 400 positions, so Monday’s announcement should come as welcome news to those who were faced with losing their jobs.
