Wife of Elijah Cummings asks public to help find man who broke into home

Rep. Elijah Cummings’ wife, Maya Cummings, is asking Twitter users for help identifying the man who broke into the couple’s home last month.

The Maryland Democrat’s Baltimore residence was broken into hours before a public feud between him and President Trump. The 68-year-old congressman released a statement on Aug. 2 acknowledging the break-in and said he was notified of the intrusion by his security system and “scared the intruder away by yelling before the person gained entry into the residential portion of the house.”

Police have still not been able to determine the suspect, so Maya Cummings took to Twitter on Saturday to seek help in finding the culprit.

“Has anyone in the Twitterverse ever seen the symbol on this hat? It was the only distinguishing feature of the man who recently broke into our home. I’m showing it to you to crowdsource the logo. Please let me know if you’ve seen it (or him) before,” she wrote.

The following day, Maya Cummings, who is also chairwoman of the Maryland Democratic Party, added pictures of a hoodie with a red crab across the front, noting that she began searching for images of crustaceans after users suggested the logo might be “kissing shrimp or lobster.”

The man attempted to enter the couple’s home around 3:40 a.m. Later that day, Trump began attacking Cummings repeatedly on Twitter. Cummings serves as the chairman of the House Oversight Committee and has made comments that are critical of Trump and his administration.

The president faced criticism for calling Cummings’ Baltimore district a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess” where “no human would want to live.”

After the news of the break-in, Trump tweeted, “Really bad news! The Baltimore house of Elijah Cummings was robbed. Too bad!”
