As the House vote on the impeachment of President Trump draws to a close, Rep. Louie Gohmert suggested we could be witnessing the end of America.
“This is a travesty, and we’re in big trouble,” said the Texas Republican. He later continued, “This country’s end is now in sight. I hope I don’t live to see it.”
Quoting Democratic New York Sen. Chuck Schumer’s 1998 remarks on President Bill Clinton’s impeachment, Gohmert warned that the process is being “used as a routine tool to fight political battles.”
Gohmert has been one of Trump’s strongest advocates as the House impeachment investigation grinds forward. In early December, Gohmert abruptly left an impeachment hearing when a Democrat called Trump “a danger.” He has joined a chorus of Republicans who have demanded that the whistleblower be called to testify.
Gohmert reportedly got in the face of House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler as he exited after his speech.
