While campaigning at the Greenspring Retirement Community in Springfield on Tuesday, Republican congressional hopeful Keith Fimian ran into his opponent’s mother — a slightly awkward encounter on the final day of what has been a brutal primary campaign.
His opponent, Pat Herrity, was at the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors meeting, but Herrity’s mother Justine and wife Nancy were out at Greenspring in his stead.
“I’m feeling good,” said Justine. “I hope Pat makes it.”
Fimian and Herrity’s mother exchanged a cordial — albeit terse — greeting before returning to campaign work.
