A 15-year veteran of the Baltimore City Police Departmenthas been suspended with pay pending an investigation into an allegedly stolen gun recovered at the officer?s apartment, The Examiner has learned.
Renee Carr, a member of the communications unit ? a detail responsible for the city?s drug tips hotline ? is under investigation by the department?s Internal Affairs Unit.
The investigation, according to Baltimore police spokesman Matt Jablow, is “ongoing.”
According to the Baltimore County Police Department, a search warrant was issued and executed at the officer?s county home at the request of city police.
The March 30 search was conducted at Carr?s apartment in the Golden Ring area near Interstate 695. Department sources would not say what prompted the investigation, or why Internal Affairs requested the search warrant. City police would neither confirm or deny that a stolen gun was recovered.
Carr, who joined the Baltimore City force in 1991, has recently been working with a unit that handles 311 calls and the city?s drug tip hot line.
Jablow confirmed that Carr has been suspended with pay “pending the outcome of an Internal Affairs investigation.” The officer has not been charged, according to both Jablow and the Baltimore State?s Attorney?s office.
Joseph Sviatko, spokesman for the Baltimore State?s Attorney?s Office, said the investigation was a “county matter.”
