Home prices continue slide in July

Home prices in the Baltimore metro area in July continued their downward slide for a ninth straight month, falling 2.46 percent from the year before, according to data released today.

The decline was less severe than in June, when prices fell 6.9 percent from the year before, according to data released by Realtor-owned Metropolitan Regional Information Systems Inc.

The median home price, the price at which half of all homes sold for more and half for less, in Baltimore City and its five surrounding counties fell to $278,000 from $285,000. Anne Arundel County and Carroll County led the area with declines of more than 8 percent each.

The number of units sold in the metro area last month fell 30.23 percent from July 2007, to 2,038 from 2,921, according to the data.
