Former Attorney General Eric Holder said Thursday that the Mueller report outlined evidence of impeachable offenses by President Trump.
“Oh, I think there are grounds for impeachment. I said, if you look at the second part of the report, there’s no question that obstruction of justice does exist in the findings that Bob Mueller reported, and in painstaking detail. And that in and of itself would be the basis for impeachment,” Holder said, referring to the report released by special counsel Robert Mueller.
“I think the House needs to gather evidence, we need to hear from Bob Mueller. They need to get the entirety of the report, and then make a reasoned decision,” Holder said.
Holder, a who served as part of the Obama administration, disagreed with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., that the country was in a “constitutional crisis.”
“I’m concerned about the state of this nation and the way in which the Trump administration is reacting to the legitimate request from Congress,” said Holder. “We could be in a constitutional crisis, but I don’t think we’re there quite yet.”
In March, freshman Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich. submitted an impeachment resolution with the support of Rep. Al Green, D-Texas.
House Democratic leadership have been resistant to begin impeachment proceedings. Pelosi reportedly told the Democratic House caucus Wednesday to focus on policy rather than impeachment.
In 2012, Holder was first Cabinet official to be held in contempt of Congress for his refusal to hand over documents related to the Fast and Furious scandal.
