Another poll shows Scott Walker trailing in bid for third term

A second poll released in less than a week shows Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker trailing his potential Democratic challenger Tony Evers.

An Emerson College poll released Monday shows Evers, the state schools superintendent, leading Walker by 7 points, 48 percent to 41 percent. Seven percent of voters are undecided.

Walker’s unpopularity in the state, especially among independents, could play a role in Evers’ lead, the poll said. Evers had an approval rating of 47 percent compared to Walker’s 34 percent among independents.

Walker is seeking his third term as governor and is likely to face off against Evers in the general election. Evers is the front-runner in the Democratic primary, with 30 percent support among voters, according to the poll. State Sen. Kathleen Vinehout, the only other Democratic candidate to hit double digits, has 10 percent support.

The state’s primary is scheduled for Aug. 14.

The Emerson poll was conducted July 26-28 among 632 resisted voters. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.2 percentage points.
