Tucker Carlson: It’s ‘likely’ John Kelly may leave White House ‘very soon’

White House chief of staff John Kelly may intend to leave the White House in the near future, according to a new report.

“This show is learning tonight … that White House chief of staff Gen. John Kelly may be preparing to leave his job, likely very soon,” Fox News’ Tucker Carlson reported Thursday.

He cited that there were several potential candidates being discussed, including Mick Mulvaney, director of the Office of Management and Budget and acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and former White House communications director Hope Hicks.

The report from Carlson came on the heels of a Wall Street Journal report that claimed Trump had asked advisers who he should bring on as the next chief of staff to replace Kelly.

The White House rejected the report earlier on Thursday and a White House spokesperson claimed Trump said it was “fake news.”

“I spoke to the president, who refutes this article,” White House spokesperson Lindsay Walters told reporters on Air Force One. “He said it is absolutely not true and that it is fake news.”

There have been reports in the past that Kelly was looking to leave the administration. Kelly has served as White House chief of staff since last summer following Reince Priebus’ departure.
