A Chicago police officer is defying the odds and learning to use a walker after becoming paralyzed last month when he broke up a fight and ended up getting shot in the process.
Officer Danny Golden was off-duty when he attempted to break up a fight outside a bar in the Beverly neighborhood of Chicago on July 9, according to FOX32. A gunshot left Golden paralyzed from the waist down.
Golden shared a video of himself learning to use a walker during a rehab session at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
He captioned the post with a quote from the movie Forrest Gump about “magic shoes.”
Investigators of the shooting said 19 shell casings were recovered from the shooting scene, per ABC7 Chicago. Three men have been charged with assault and attempted murder in connection to the shooting.
Golden was released from Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn around July 15 and moved to the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab for rehabilitation.
