Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, mocked the speculation over President Trump’s pick as the next Supreme Court justice, saying he had heard that Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, who was once considered a possible nominee, was flying to Washington.
“I’m told Mike Lee has been spotted flying to Washington today….,” Cruz wrote Monday.
I’m told Mike Lee has been spotted flying to Washington today….

Lee’s travel might have been explained by the fact that the Senate was coming back into session Monday for the first time since the Fourth of July holiday.
Trump had recently narrowed his shortlist to four judges, which did not include Lee.
After Trump was said to have made his decision Monday afternoon, the Wall Street Journal reported that allies of Thomas Hardiman were being told to get ready to promote him. Another rumor circulated on Twitter that Amy Coney Barrett was on a flight to Washington with her family.

Since this has blown up – everyone settle down. There is no way to know the pick. Other nominees have flown to DC day of nomination and then not gotten picked. I’m just passing along what I heard from someone in a position to know.

Trump is set to announce his nominee at 9 p.m. Monday.
