A school leader in California committed suicide while on campus.
Moises Plascencia, the assistant principal of Kraemer Middle School, located in Placentia, California, took his own life on Monday to the shock of the surrounding community.
“[Plascencia] took his own life in a private staff area on the school’s campus this morning,” the school’s superintendent, Jim Elsasser, said in a statement. “Fellow staff members and students were not present, nor was the occurrence witnessed by anyone.”

Officers were called to the school around 9 a.m. on Monday concerning an employee who had shot himself in a staff bathroom, the police said in a news release. Plascencia was found by the school principal, according to police, and was already deceased upon the officer’s arrival. Police also said they found the firearm in the bathroom.
“Moises was so much more than a respected assistant principal,” Elsasser said. “He was a father, husband, brother, and friend to so many in our school district community. His passing, and the manner in which it occurred, has left us devastated, confused, and heartbroken; however, we ask that you please respect his family’s privacy during this incredibly difficult time.”

Students were sent home after the discovery, and the school was cordoned off with yellow tape, according to one parent. The district intends to make mental health professionals available to students, staffers, and other members of the community if they are needed, Elsasser said.
