U.S. Capitol Police on Monday arrested 300 more protesters who were calling for campaign finance reform laws.
The group Democracy Spring has been protesting at the Capitol since last week. As of Monday, Capitol Police have arrested about 1,240 Democracy Spring protesters for unlawful demonstration, police said.
Police spokeswoman Eva Malecki said the arrests were due to violations of a law prohibiting “crowding, obstructing, or incommoding.”
Malecki added that the protesters were “processed on the scene and released,” and could pay the associated fines at police headquarters.
The Democracy Spring website calls for protesters to join the group for sit-ins that were to end today.
“Thousands are gathering this week in our nation’s Capital to demand Congress take immediate action to end the corruption of big money in our politics and ensure free and fair elections in which every American has an equal voice,” the group states on its website.
