Jeff Bezos’s ex-wife MacKenzie Scott files for divorce from her new husband

MacKenzie Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, is divorcing her current husband after less than two years of marriage.

Scott filed a petition for divorce from her husband, Dan Jewett, in the King County Superior Court on Monday. Jewett, a former science teacher at Lakeside School in Washington, did not contest the divorce, according to the New York Times.

The two were married in 2021 in California, though the date of their marriage is not specified in the divorce filing. Both of them still live in King County, where Seattle is located, the filing reads.

Scott’s children were enrolled in Lakeside School, which is where she met the teacher, as early as 2019, according to the Washington Post. It is unclear whether Jewett is still teaching at the school due to his name no longer being listed in the staff directory as of 2021, according to People.

Prior to Monday’s filing, there were several indications that the relationship between Scott and Jewett was experiencing trouble because several nonprofit organizations that received grants from the two only thanked Scott. Additionally, Jewett’s name was edited out of a 2021 blog post Scott wrote about her donations, and she had his name removed from her author bio on Amazon.

After Scott and Bezos divorced in 2019, ending a 25-year marriage, Scott gave massive donations to organizations, writing that she would donate her money “until the safe is empty.” Earlier this year, she donated $275 million to Planned Parenthood, the largest donation ever from a single donor in the organization’s history. Scott also donated $436 million to Habitat for Humanity International and 84 of its affiliates in the United States.
