Trump Cancels CPAC Appearance Last Minute

Donald Trump cancelled his planned appearance at the largest annual gathering of conservative political activists Friday. Trump had been scheduled to address the Conservative Political Action Conference just outside Washington, D.C., on Saturday morning. But the current frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination released a statement saying he would instead be holding a rally in Kansas, which will hold a presidential caucus Saturday.

“The Donald J. Trump Presidential Campaign has just announced it will be in Witchita, Kanasas (sic) for a major rally on Saturday prior to Caucus,” the statement reads, misspelling the city and state. “Because of this he will not be able to speak at CPAC as he has done for many consecutive years.”

Trump thanked CPAC and its chairman Matt Schlapp and promised to return “next year, hopefully as President of the United States.”

Conservatives were in an uproar last week after another presidential candidate, Marco Rubio, was initially unable to come to an agreement with CPAC about a workable speaking timeslot. The Rubio campaign and CPAC eventually agreed on a schedule.
