Trump Refuses to Commit to Accepting Election Results

When asked by moderator Chris Wallace Tuesday about his repeated claims that the election was “rigged” and whether he would accept the results of the election should he lose, Donald Trump replied: “I’ll look at it at the time.”

This comes after his running mate Mike Pence and daughter Ivanka have pledged to accept the results of next month’s election, marking the second debate in a row where Trump has publicly suggested his running mate’s public comments were not consistent with his worldview.

Trump blamed the media, millions of dead voters not yet purged from voting rolls, and stated his view that the election is rigged because “she shouldn’t be allowed to run… She’s guilty of a very, very serious crime. She should not be allowed to run, and just in that respect I say it’s rigged.”

Wallace responded:

But, sir, there is a tradition in this country, in fact, one of the prides of this country is the peaceful transition of power and no matter how hard fought a campaign is that at the end of the campaign the loser concedes to the winner. Not saying you’re necessarily going to be the loser or the winner, but that the loser concedes to the winner and the country comes together in part for the good of the country. Are you saying you’re not prepared now to commit to that principle?

Trump’s response: “I’ll tell you at the time. I’ll keep you in suspense, okay?”
