If you’re looking for women who earn more than $108,000 a year, look no further than tiny little Brookeville, Md.
Really. Stop looking after that — it’s the only town or city in this region where the average woman earns a six-figure income, according to the American Community Survey.
Of course, the population’s tiny sample size (about 150 people) and expensive housing do help skew the stats toward wealth, and lots of it. So it’s not like you won’t find high earning females in other jurisdictions, it’s just you’ll have to look longer.
But here’s another interesting fact about Brookeville — the median income for men? Less than $63,000. And it’s one of the only areas where women earn more than men.
Prominent Mitchellville in Prince George’s County is another place to find high-powered women — they earn more than $57,000 annually, about $11,000 more than Mitchellville men.
Sadly — for women, anyway — Mitchellville ranks eighth on the list of cities where the highest-earning women live. And after Brookeville, the drop-off is huge: more than $30,000 separate it from Chevy Chase, No. 2 on the women’s list.
Meanwhile, Chevy Chase is home to some of the highest-earning men, who bring in more than $157,000 annually. And eighth on the men’s list? Wolf Trap, where men earn more than $115,000.
Meanwhile on the women’s list, Martin’s Addition Village is ranked third, followed by Woodmore, University Park and Garrett Park, where women earn between $60,000 and $73,000 annually.
