Republicans in the House and Senate are pushing back on a pair of tweets from Presisdent Trump on Thursday morning in which he insulted an MSNBC host’s intelligence and appearance, and said the president’s messages were “beneath the dignity of our office” and represented what is “wrong with American politics.”

“Please just stop. This isn’t normal and it’s beneath the dignity of your office,” Sasse wrote on his Twitter account.

“Mr. President, your tweet was beneath the office and represents what is wrong with American politics, not the greatness of America,” Graham wrote on Twitter.
“This is not okay. As a female in politics I am often criticized for my looks. We should be working to empower women,” Jenkins said.

The office of Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, took to its Twitter account to repromote a Time magazine article from the Utah senator about his decision to recommit to civility.
“It’s incumbent on all of us, then — from the President to Congress on down — to be responsible for our speech,” Hatch’s staff wrote.
Oklahoma Republican Sen. James Lankford came out of a hearing on the Capitol Police, which covered the June 14 shooting of Rep. Steve Scalise and three others at a baseball practice, and said that incident is a reminder that politicians have to be smarter with their words.
“National and local leaders, including our president, should model civility, honor and respect in our political rhetoric,” he said. “The president’s tweets today don’t help our political or national discourse and do not provide a positive role model for our national dialogue.”

Trump criticized MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough after they spoke out against the president on their show.
“I heard poorly rated @Morning_Joe speaks badly of me (don’t watch anymore). Then how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year’s Eve, and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no!” Trump said in a series of tweets.
Brzezinski responded to the president with a photo of a Cheerios box featuring a child reaching for cereal. The box included the words “Made For Little Hands.”
