Rep. Jason Chaffetz ditching Congress to escape ‘Potomac fever’

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, says he’s bailing from Congress because he doesn’t want to catch “Potomac fever.”

During an appearance on CNN on Wednesday, Chaffetz was asked by host Wolf Blitzer why he is planning to resign on June 30.

“At some point you have to get off this crazy train,” Chaffetz replied.

Chaffetz, who is chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said the work is never actually done and he wouldn’t look forward to spending hundreds more nights away from his wife.

“There’s always somebody doing something stupid somewhere, so there is always something to investigate and look at,” he said, adding that he didn’t commit to a “lifetime appointment.”

Asked about reports that he might move on to Fox News in his post-Congress life, Chaffetz demurred.

“I’m not here to talk about that yet. We’re going to do that at proper time,” Chaffetz said.
