The District mailed out 158,000 voter guides last week that direct citizens to go to the wrong precincts.
In a statement, the D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics blamed the inaccurate program guides on the contractor company, Toucan Printing and Promotional Products Inc.
The head of the company notified the board about the incorrect precinct location on the label and said it is mailing a postcard with the correct precinct information at Toucan’s expense.
This isn’t the first time Toucan has fouled up a voters’ guide project, according to D.C. Watch, a government watchdog organization.
In January 2004, the D.C. voters’ guides were mailed so late that most households didn’t get them until after the day of the presidential primary.
Later that year, the guides that were mailed for another primary also had mailing labels that directed voters to the wrong polling sites.
Voters who want to verify their correct polling sites can call the board at 202-727-2525 or visit its Web site, www.dcboee.org.
