Rockville home explosion injures 2

Two people were seriously injured when their Rockville house exploded early Wednesday morning.

An adult man and an adult woman were taken to a local hospital’s burn unit when rescue crews found them after the blast, which happened at about 3 a.m. on the 11200 block of Ashley Drive, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue.

Assistant Chief Scott Graham said the home was destroyed by some type of explosion. The single-family, ranch-style home off Randolph Road was a total loss.

He said the fire department and utility companies are working to determine the cause and origin of the explosion.

Adjacent homes sustained moderate damage, Graham said. Debris from the house was found for a 50-yard  radius around the home.

No one else was injured.
