Trump offers to work with Democrats, then criticizes their ‘hatred’

President Trump slammed Democrats on Tuesday for harboring “anger and hatred” toward him, less than 48 hours after promising to work across the aisle on healthcare reform if Republicans fail to reach a consensus.

“You look at the Democrats — the anger and hatred. They’re trying to figure out where did all these people come [from] that voted for Donald Trump,” the president said in a speech at the North America’s Building Trades Unions National Legislative Conference.

Trump’s criticism of the Democratic Party comes even as he continues to threaten to abandon the GOP and begin negotiating with congressional Democrats on healthcare.

“If we don’t get what we want, we will make a deal with the Democrats,” he told the Financial Times in an interview published Monday.
