Report: Trump considering Cruz for attorney general

President-elect Trump is considering Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas for U.S. attorney general in his administration, according to a source who told Bloomberg late Tuesday.

The former 2016 presidential candidate was spotted entering Trump’s Manhattan business headquarters earlier Tuesday, indicating the two may be in talks about a potential slot in the incoming president’s Cabinet.

Cruz’s spokesman Catherine Frazier said her boss visited Trump in New York “to offer help in promoting the conservative policies that were campaigned on and that he’s long fought for.”

Cruz made it to the final three in the Republican battle for the nomination and was a favorite by Tea Party members of the party. He was expected to officially endorse Trump at the GOP convention in Cleveland, Ohio this summer, but told conservatives “vote your conscience,” sending Trump’s team and voters into a frenzy. He did eventually come around to endorse and campaign for Trump.

Trump would not comment on the report Tuesday night, but tweeted shortly before 10 p.m. local time that all was well in the transition process.

In a tweet at 9:55 p.m., Trump said: “Very organized process taking place as I decide on Cabinet and many other positions. I am the only one who knows who the finalists are!”

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani had been discussed as a potential attorney general, but now his name is being floated for secretary of state.
