A super PAC led by former United Nations Ambassador John Bolton has pledged to distribute $100,000 to 19 Republican congressional candidates, whom he believes support robust national defense, in the wake of last weekend’s terror attacks in New York and New Jersey.
“Recent bombings in New Jersey and New York prove the threat of terrorism is as real at home as it is in other parts of the world,” Bolton said in a statement released to the Washington Examiner. “It is imperative that the 115th Congress is represented by Republican leaders who understand the dangerous times we live in and will vote for strong national defense policies that ensure America’s safety.”
In battleground Florida, Bolton has endorsed incumbent GOP Rep. John Mica, whose district has become bluer since being redrawn, and Republican candidate Brian Mast.
“As a combat veteran of the war in Afghanistan, I know national security will be Brian’s top priority as a member of Congress,” he said.
Bolton also threw his support behind New York Congressman Peter King and Utah Sen. Mike Lee, among 15 other Republican candidates from 11 different states.
Bolton has already endorsed 80 Republican incumbents and candidates for Congress this cycle and contributed $540,000. His political action committee has also pledged to give a combined $3 million to embattled GOP Sens. Richard Burr (N.C.) and Kelly Ayotte (N.H.) and Nevada Congressman Joe Heck, who is running to replace retiring Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid.
The hawkish former ambassador plans to make further endorsements and contributions as the Nov. 8 election draws nearer.
