Baltimore fire department announces safety measures

The Baltimore City Fire Department announced new safety initiatives Monday designed to improve standards.

The safety office will be responsible for creating a “formal model” for the entire department, fire officials said in a statement. Emphasis will be placed on more documentation of health and safety issues, more fire station inspections, and increased staffing of the safety office.

The initiatives were announced partly in response to the death of Racheal Wilson, a fire cadet who was killed during a “live burn” training exercises on Feb. 9.
