Monday?s high winds nearly cost a Laurel man his life when he was pinned beneath a toppled tree while walking his dog in the woods ? leading to a manhunt by Anne Arundel County police after he was reported missing.

Rescuers with chainsaws had to cut a 12-inch-thick fallen tree off Max McCord, who suffered several serious injuries to his legs, hips and shoulders when winds that had gusted as high as 51 mph knocked the tree onto him.
