House Democrats on Monday launched investigations into dozens of current and former associates of President Trump, including his two sons and several former officials.
The letters followed a weekend warning from House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., who said Trump has tried to obstruct justice and must be investigated further.
Monday morning, Nadler’s committee sent 81 letters that include document requests to Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, Trump’s two sons. The letters asked for a reply by March 18.

Nadler said in his letters that the committee will investigate “a number of actions that threaten our nation’s longstanding commitment to the rule of law, including allegations of obstruction of justice, public corruption, and other abuses of power.” He added the probe is needed in the face of allegations against Trump that “strike at the heart of our constitutional order.”
Others who were sent letters are former White House counsel Don McGahn, former communications director Hope Hicks, White House advisor Jared Kushner, former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, former national security adviser Michael Flynn, former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus, former White House press secretary Sean Spicer, and former adviser Steve Bannon.
Nadler said Sunday the investigations would cover Trump’s effort to protect his associates from being investigated by the FBI, and to blunt the FBI’s effort to investigate Trump’s alleged collusion with Russia.
Most of Nadler’s letters focused on the same issues regardless of who gets the letters. He asked for documents and information related to Flynn’s communications with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak or related to Flynn’s resignation, and documents related to Trump’s interactions with former FBI director James Comey throughout early 2017 up to Comey’s firing in May 2017.
The committee asked about any discussions the people had on the possible resignation or firing of Jeff Sessions, Rod Rosenstein, and Robert Mueller. It also asked about details about the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting, and any foreign contacts during and after the campaign, including with Russia and/or Wikileaks.
The committee is also after information related to efforts to fire Justice Department officials like Andrew McCabe, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page and Bruce Ohr.
Several questions were asked about any foreign business dealings, including the proposed Trump Tower Moscow business project and any contacts they may have had with Wikileaks or with Russia.
Finally, the committee wants to know about any discussions of pardons for Manafort,
And they were interested in any discussions of pardons for Manafort, Flynn, or former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, and possible documentation of President Trump’s meetings with Vladimir Putin in 2017 and 2018.
