Trump’s edge returns in red battleground states

Donald Trump has regained his edge in three reliably red states that were put in jeopardy last month following his debate performances and fallout from the “Access Hollywood” audio tape controversy, according to three Emerson College polls released Wednesday.

The Republican presidential nominee leads Hillary Clinton by 9 percentage points among likely voters in Georgia, 51-42, and carries a 15-point lead in Missouri, 52-37.

A separate Quinnipiac University poll released in mid-October showed Trump up just 1 percentage point in Georgia.

The latest polling by Emerson College also shows Trump ahead of Clinton in Arizona, 47-43, where the former secretary of state plans to hold a campaign rally Wednesday night. Clinton led Trump by 2 points in the Grand Canyon State in the same poll released last month.

The momentum has shifted back toward Trump in the election’s waning days as Clinton continues to deal with the political fallout of the FBI’s decision to reopen its investigation into her handling of classified material. After spending several weeks sticking to a positive message, the Clinton campaign has taken a noticeably different approach since last week’s bombshell news, choosing to attack FBI director James Comey and attempting to distract voters by highlighting her Republican opponent’s questionable ties to Russia.

The Emerson College poll of 650 likely voters in Missouri was conducted from Oct. 28-31 and contains a margin of error plus or minus 3.8 percentage points. Voters in Arizona and Georgia were surveyed from Oct. 29-31, with varying margins of error.
